About the Examinations
All dental hygienists must pass entry-to-practice examinations before they can register to practise. Examinations verify that all applicants possess the education, competency and qualifications necessary to practise dental hygiene in Ontario.
The examination process consists of two components – a written exam administered by the National Dental Hygiene Certification Board (NDHCB) and a clinical competency exam administered by the College. The written examination must be passed before a candidate can be considered for the clinical exam.
The NDHCB does an assessment of an applicant’s course of study to determine eligibility to take the NDHCB national examination. This is the first step to becoming registered in Ontario.
