Choosing a Mentor
The College maintains a list of peer mentors on its website. Using the Find a Registered Dental Hygienist search function, dental hygienists seeking mentors can search by name, address, or city. It is up to the mentee to select and make the initial contact with a potential mentor. They are waiting for your call! Introduce yourself, find common ground and tell them why you are an ideal mentee. Remember that mentors volunteer their services and have no obligation to take you on as a mentee.
The mentor you select for the purposes of the CDHO Peer Mentoring Program must be currently listed as CDHO Peer Mentor. If you are considering a non-traditional practice setting in your immediate future, it would be advisable to seek out a mentor who currently practises in that type of setting. For example, if you would like to practise in a long-term care facility, it would make good sense to mentor with someone who has hands-on experience in that type of practice setting. Mentoring can be done at distance through email, voice or video calling.
