Apply for a Specialty (Restorative) Certificate

Registered Dental Hygienists who wish to practise as a Restorative Dental Hygienist must hold a Specialty Certificate of Registration.

Path 1 – Currently registered with CDHO

  1. Currently hold a General Certificate of Registration.
  2. Have completed one of the following:
    1. An approved restorative dental hygiene program within the last three years.
    2. An approved restorative dental hygiene program more than three years ago and have either:
      1. been practising restorative dental hygiene in another jurisdiction within the last three years; or
      2. taken an approved restorative refresher course within the last 18 months.
  3. Submit the application along with required documentation and fees.

Path 2 Out-of-Province Applicants

  1. Currently hold an equivalent registration in another jurisdiction in Canada that authorizes restorative dental hygiene.
  2. Submit the application along with required documentation and fees.

You may apply for a Specialty Certificate of Registration through the Self-Service Portal. You cannot practise restorative dental hygiene until after CDHO approves the application. This process can take up to 10 business days after the completed application is received.

If you are applying from restorative dental hygiene programs not approved by CDHO, you must complete a self-evaluation of your program. CDHO’s Registration Committee will review the program and determine whether it is approved. See instructions in the Guide to the Self-Evaluation of a Restorative Dental Hygiene Program. Please allow an additional 4-6 weeks for review of your course of study.
