Registered Dental Hygienists, other healthcare professionals, employers and facility operators are legally required to report certain information to CDHO.
RDHs must report information about their conduct to CDHO, including:
- A charge or finding of guilt for any offence, including any bail conditions or restrictions
- A finding of professional misconduct or incompetence by another regulatory body
- A finding of professional negligence or malpractice.
Reports need to be made as soon as reasonably practicable following the charge or finding, and should include all relevant details (e.g., date of charge/finding, nature of the offence, etc.). Reports can be made to registration@cdho.org.
A report to CDHO is required from an RDH, another health professional, an employer or facility operator in the following circumstances:
- An RDH is suspected of sexually abusing a client
- An RDH is suspected of being incompetent or incapacitated
- An RDH is terminated, suspended, or has their practice restricted because of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity
- An RDH voluntarily resigns or restricts their practice because of an investigation into their professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity
- An individual ends a professional partnership, association, or health professional corporation with an RDH because of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity.
Mandatory reports about an RDH can be made using the Mandatory Reporting Form or by contacting complaints@cdho.org.
