Two volunteer focus group opportunities

We’re looking for volunteers to join us for two different focus groups. They will be conducted on Zoom and be no more than two hours. Dates and times will be scheduled based on selected volunteers’ availabilities.

Please note that you can sign up for one or both focus groups. Please express your interest by completing the sign-up form below by June 20, 2025.

Focus group 1: Risk factors for continued competence

In recent years, health profession regulators have adopted risk-based regulation principles. Risk-based regulation prioritizes regulatory actions based on the level of risk posed to public health and safety and helps ensure that resources are allocated efficiently to address the most significant risks. By focusing on high-risk areas, regulators can enhance client safety and reduce the risk of harm.

Currently, CDHO randomly selects RDHs to participate in the QA Assessment. CDHO is considering adopting risk-informed selection for QA, which would involve using risk factors to select individuals for participation in the QA assessment process based on the risk factors’ potential impact on continuing professional competence.

We need your input! We would like to hear from the Dental Hygiene community and gather your thoughts on the factors you believe represent a risk to continuing competence.

Focus group 2: Levels of risk in Dental Hygiene practice

The Ontario Government’s College Performance Measurement Framework (CPMF) requires health profession regulators to administer the assessment component(s) of their QA Program in a manner that targets specific, identified risks, and that is proportionate to the size of the risk. This is known as right-touch regulation. Colleges are expected to identify areas of practice associated with a higher risk of harm and to proportionately direct their QA resources to reducing that risk. Part of the work in developing this approach is to identify and quantify the risks.

To help us, we would like to hear from RDHs to gather their thoughts on the levels of risk and various areas and elements of practice that can pose a risk to client safety when done in a manner that is inconsistent with standards and expectations.
