In the very rare instance where a client is sexually abused by a Registered Dental Hygienist, CDHO is legally required to provide funding for therapy/counselling to the client if they meet certain eligibility criteria. This funding is paid directly to the therapist/counsellor, covers only their fees and is reduced by any other funding the client may have (e.g., OHIP, private insurance). This funding program is managed by CDHO’s Patient Relations Committee.

Recognizing that some clients face additional barriers and expenses when accessing therapy or counselling, CDHO developed the Supplementary Supportive Funding Policy. This Policy covers reasonable and necessary costs associated with accessing therapy/counselling, such as transportation, accommodation, dependent care or other incidental costs as approved by the Patient Relations Committee.
