Find a Registered Dental Hygienist

Registrar’s Message

Hi everyone!

I hope you’re enjoying summer and that you’ve had some time to relax and recharge!

Next week, all RDHs will receive a short survey by email. This survey is being used to seek feedback on the anticipated enhancements to the Scope of Practice for Dental Hygienists and help us plan for the roll-out of these enhancements. We need your help in gathering as much data as we can, so please complete the survey! It will take less than five minutes. Your input is incredibly valuable as we work to ensure the profession is ready for these changes. As a reminder, there are no changes to the Scope at this time, and we will share more information as it becomes available.

I’d also like to provide a gentle reminder about completing The Path course. We have offered this course free of charge since 2023, and it provides foundational knowledge of Canada’s colonial history. CDHO’s Council recently made completion of The Path a professional development requirement for all RDHs, reflecting the College’s ongoing commitment to supporting reconciliation and culturally safe care for all Ontarians. Evidence shows that Indigenous peoples experience significant oral health disparities compared to non-Indigenous peoples, and that Indigenous peoples experience barriers and discrimination when seeking Dental Hygiene care in Ontario. Some of these experiences arise because of lack of knowledge and by completing The Path, you can deepen your understanding of the lives and cultures of Indigenous Canadians. This understanding supports the creation of an inclusive, respectful and culturally safe experience for all clients.

All RDHs (even those registered in the Non-Practising Class) are required to complete The Path by December 31, 2027. You can access the course and all instructions in the Self-Service Portal

Thanks for your attention to these items and my sincere thanks to all RDHs for their continued dedication to overall health of Ontarians, and for the important roles you play in communities across the province. Wishing you all a great rest of your summer!
