The importance of the Public Register

CDHO’s Public Register, also known as Find a Registered Dental Hygienist, helps clients and employers verify if a Dental Hygienist is registered. From here, they can access key information to make informed decisions about who they’re seeking Dental Hygiene services from or, in the case of employers, when hiring. The Register allows individuals to search for a Dental Hygienist by name, registration number, city, postal code and language of service.

The Public Register includes information on:

  • Eligibility to practise, including any restrictions on an RDH’s Certificate of Registration
  • Business address(es)
  • Certain complaints and investigations findings, and disciplinary history
  • A list of individuals who have practised illegally (i.e., they were never registered with CDHO)

As RDHs, you’ve worked hard to earn your registration as regulated health professionals. By keeping your information current on the Public Register, guiding employers to verify the information of new hires, and helping clients understand the value of using the Public Register, you help ensure that only qualified Registered Dental Hygienists, like you, provide services.

When do I need to update my information?

If there are any changes to your name, home address, contact information (i.e., email, phone number) or employment information, please let us know within 14 days of the change. Most of these changes can be made on the Self-Service Portal. For name changes, please email registration@cdho.org.

Changing practices?

RDHs often ask how they can inform their clients that they’re moving to a new practice without appearing to solicit them. The best approach is to encourage your clients to Subscribe to Notifications on your Public Register profile. This feature allows your clients to receive updates when you make a change to your profile, including changes to your business address.
